EoW - S1 - E1 - Into the Lion's Den

As the eldest leader of the Dora Milaje, Akeya holds the threads of Wakanda's most sensitive operations with calculated precision. It is she who sets the story in motion, summoning the disgraced and expelled warrior Noni back into Wakanda's orbit when every other operative has failed to return from hunting The Lion. She lays out the threat plainly - a former Royal Guard captain turned warlord, armed with stolen vibranium technology and an empire built on false prophecy - and makes clear that Noni is not being asked as a courtesy. She's being asked because Nkati never trained her, which means he cannot anticipate her. The reward Akeya offers is reinstatement into the Dora Milaje. What she does not offer is the full truth. The existence of the Hatut Zeraze, the War Dogs, Nkati's history within them - none of it is disclosed. Akeya sends Noni into the lion's den with only as much information as she decides Noni needs.

When Noni returns - alive, scarred, and empty-handed save for The Lion's mask - Akeya greets her not with disappointment but with quiet satisfaction. She reveals that the mission was never purely about retrieval. It was a test, designed to see whether Noni had the instincts and the resolve to operate alone in the outside world. Akeya tells her she always believed this was Noni's true purpose. And when Noni refuses the offer to rejoin the Dora Milaje and instead asks to become a War Dog, Akeya grants it without hesitation - making clear that the role cannot be assigned, only volunteered. In doing so, she closes the episode having orchestrated exactly the outcome she intended from the beginning.
