EoW - S1 - E3 - Lost and Found

Basha arrives in K'un-Lun with a mission and a grin, and he treats both with roughly equal seriousness. Unlike the War Dogs who came before him, he does not carry the weight of his work like a wound. He is charming, confident, and more than a little cavalier, and those qualities get him both further and into more trouble than a more disciplined operative would ever manage. He has spent weeks embedded in the community, developing a genuine bond with a woman named Jorani, and when he finally locates the vibranium artifact he was sent for, lodged as the tongue of a sacred dragon statue, he cannot remove it. Rather than find another way, he simply takes the entire head and runs. He makes it back to Wakanda, reports to Captain Ebo with breezy assurances that everything went smoothly, and walks into a situation that is already unraveling behind him.

The stowaway in his aircraft turns out to be Jorani herself, who is also the Iron Fist and was apparently running her own operation on him the entire time. She fights her way through Wakandan security with an ease that makes Basha look considerably worse in retrospect, and when he finally catches up to her it becomes clear how thoroughly he underestimated everything about the mission. Jorani points out, without much patience, that if he had simply asked her to help remove the vibranium tongue, she could have done it in moments, and none of this would have happened. She demonstrates by doing exactly that. Basha, to his credit, takes this in stride. He talks Ebo into covering the whole incident as a security drill, gets Jorani safely out of Wakanda, and walks away with the artifact he came for. He ends the story with what he wanted, a bruised ego, and possibly a clearer sense of where his confidence ends and his competence begins.
