Ferro is a Myrmidon soldier who never trusts Memnon and makes no effort to hide it. From the beginning he views the outsider fighting alongside them with open suspicion, and when the tension around the campfire finally surfaces, he says it plainly: Memnon is not one of them, and as far as Ferro is concerned, that makes him a liability at best and a Trojan spy at worst. Achilles shuts him down immediately, citing years of shared battles and lives saved, and the matter is dropped on the surface. But Ferro is not wrong in the way he thinks he is.

His suspicion points at the right person for entirely the wrong reasons. Memnon is indeed operating under a hidden allegiance, just not to Troy. Ferro never gets the satisfaction of being vindicated, and likely never learns the truth of what Memnon actually was. He functions as the story's one voice of doubt in a camp full of trust, a soldier whose instincts are sharp enough to identify the deception but too narrow to imagine what the deception actually was.
