Once one of Wakanda's most trusted warriors — a former captain of the Royal Guard and a veteran of the Hatut Zeraze, the kingdom's secret network of operatives — Nkati has turned his back on everything he was trained to serve. He fled Wakanda with dozens of vibranium-enhanced artifacts and a band of loyal men, and by 1260 BC he has built something no Wakandan agent was sent to stop: a kingdom. Operating off the coast of Crete as the fearsome pirate warlord known only as The Lion, he commands a fleet of technologically advanced warships and rules over a growing army of followers drawn from civilizations across the world. To those who serve him, he preaches freedom — liberation from the same isolationist lies he believes Wakanda has been selling for generations. To everyone else, he is something closer to a god, and he is not shy about enforcing that image.

When Noni finally reaches him, Nkati doesn't run — he invites her in. He reveals what Akeya never told her: that he was dispatched by Wakanda itself as a War Dog, sent out into a world he was then expected to pretend he never saw. Having tasted that world, he refused to be erased back into service. He offers Noni the same choice, genuinely believing he is building something worth joining. But Noni sees the chains behind his philosophy, and the two warriors clash. She defeats him, piece by piece stripping away his armor and his authority, leaving him with nothing but a choice. Nkati makes it quickly. Rather than be taken back to Wakanda as a prisoner, he detonates his flagship — dying, as he had always intended, on his own terms. The vibranium he spent years collecting sinks with his ship, and The Lion is gone, leaving only a question about where Wakanda's secrecy ends and its cruelty begins.
