Smoke and Mirrors
Bud Schultz visits Wilma Cully’s home and behaves as though his financial support entitles him to personal access and control. He makes unwanted remarks to Agnes, presses her to smile for him, and disregards her clear discomfort. Agnes asks for her pencil back while trying to continue her work, but Bud continues making comments about her appearance. Wilma urges Agnes to behave politely because Bud helps support the household.
Bud’s relationship with Wilma eventually collapses when he admits to seeing another woman, the Owens girl. Wilma confronts him over the betrayal and reminds him that they have cared for one another. Bud dismisses her concerns and tells her to leave by the following day.
