Baron Zemo has established himself in the Amazon jungle and grows tired of hiding from Captain America. He decides to destroy his enemy and begins gathering gold to pay mercenaries. Zemo orders his men to obtain more gold from local tribes and threatens anyone who refuses. He then contacts his agent in America and orders him to use Rick Jones as bait to draw Captain America into the trap.
Zemo's plan succeeds in drawing Captain America to South America, where he uses aircraft, missiles, a special cage, deadly gas, a pit, and a Vibra Gun to wear Steve down. Even after Captain America survives the traps, Zemo summons his remaining mercenaries for a final assault. He eventually confronts Steve personally with a disintegrator gun, only to be blinded when Captain America reflects sunlight from his shield into his eyes. Zemo falls and is killed when his weapon strikes the rock surrounding him.
