Hugh Jones runs Roxxon. When the SSR comes calling about the refinery that folded in on itself overnight, Jones greets them with a drink in hand at a quarter to eleven in the morning and a name already on his lips: Howard Stark. The two were friends once, lunches at the club and charity functions and Christmas parties, until Stark got a little too friendly with Mrs. Jones. Now Jones sits across from Chief Dooley and Agent Thompson wrapped in wounded civic duty, steering them straight at the one man he most wants ruined. He keeps insisting it is not personal.
His theory does the SSR's homework for them. Jones claims Stark is chasing a formula for molecular nitramene with roots in Vita radiation, and that Stark tried to buy this very refinery back in January before it became a smoking federal crime scene. He throws his plant open to a Vita-Ray screening of his own technicians, playing the cooperative victim as one of his men bolts for the stairwell the instant Peggy Carter points out that a saboteur's clothes would still read hot long after a shower.
