Leet Brannis stands over a Nitramene stockpile inside a Roxxon refinery, cornered by Agent Carter as she closes the last few feet. He answers her through a slim electronic device pressed to a raw scar where his voice box used to be, and the sound it lends him is flat. He calls himself an independent businessman just trying to make his mark. He does not kill people, he explains. He only sells to the people who do. It is a tidy little distinction, and he offers it with the ease of a man who has rehearsed the line.
A second man in a green suit waits nearby, his throat marked by the same scarring, and Brannis disowns him fast: not a friend, and no longer even a name. Pressed on what is actually coming, he gives Carter one word, Leviathan, and a promise that she will not care for the future such as it is. Then he drops a nitramene charge, grants her thirty seconds, and lets the refinery collapse inward on itself. Carter and Jarvis clear the blast. Brannis clears it too, rolling away with a truckful of bombs and a warning that lands harder than the explosion did.
