Peril in the Surface World / So Spreads the Net / The Unveiling

Milestone: Learns of his true heritage

Namor is the Prince of Atlantis and the Sub-Mariner. We find him suffering from amnesia after an illness. Despite having no clear memory of who he is or what he is seeking, he feels a powerful compulsion drawing him toward the surface world. He emerges from the ocean and becomes involved with the human world almost immediately. Found by a police officer, Namor reacts poorly when confronted, smacking the gun out of the officer's hand. He becomes a hunted "man'. The police eventually capture him.

Having bail paid on his behalf, Namor is taken to Ms. B, fulfilling his search. She reveals that she is his grandmother and explains the tragic history of his parents. Through her story, Namor learns that his father was the human sea captain Leonard McKenzie and his mother was the Atlantean princess Fen. The revelation restores his understanding of his heritage, but Namor ultimately rejects Ms. B's offer to remain on the surface because his true home and the woman he loves, Lady Dorma, are in Atlantis. He returns to the sea having recovered not only his identity but also a greater appreciation for both sides of his heritage.

The Start of the Quest / Escape to Nowhere / A Prince There Was

Namor returns to Atlantis to find that Warlord Krang has seized his throne during his absence. He is immediately confronted by Lady Dorma, who offers to help him reclaim his kingdom, but Namor rejects her assistance. Dorma responds by ordering the guards to seize him, after which Krang accuses Namor of betraying Atlantis because he favored peace with the surface world rather than vengeance against humanity. Krang declares his intention to invade the surface world and has Namor imprisoned.

Dorma eventually frees Namor with the Vibra-Key, and he chooses to pursue the hidden Trident of Neptune as proof of his rightful claim to Atlantis. His quest takes him through the Cave of Shadows, where he defeats a giant killer squid and escapes a sealed cavern by using his body as a living drill. Neptune then directs him toward the Forbidden Deeps. Namor encounters an ancient Atlantean who assures him that the people remain loyal, then battles a gigantic Seaweed Monster guarding the next clue. He defeats it by using leverage and creating a giant whirlpool, continuing toward the Trident while determined to prevent the war Krang threatens to unleash upon the surface world.
