Rufus Hunt is associated with the Council of Nine and intends to eliminate the Isodyne project. The laboratory is being cleared while Peggy and Jason attempt to retrieve the Zero Matter, and armed men pursue them during their escape. The operation is conducted with lethal force, demonstrating that the Council's decision to eliminate the program extends beyond simply closing the laboratory.
After pursuing Carter and Wilkes at the Griffith Observatory, Hunt's forces eventually reach the laboratory while Jason is attempting to secure the Zero Matter. Peggy engages the armed men while Jason retrieves the specimen, and the confrontation culminates in the laboratory explosion. Hunt is among the forces whose presence makes the recovery operation immediately dangerous.
