Torrance welcomes Howard Stark to the Arena Club and describes the organization’s membership, which is drawn largely from elite universities and wealthy social circles. He attempts to impress Howard with the club’s prestige and traditions, including its exclusive membership and social activities. Howard, however, finds the club’s atmosphere dull and quickly challenges Torrance’s claims about its appeal.
Torrance becomes increasingly uncomfortable when Howard brings women into the club in defiance of its rules. He protests that women are not permitted inside and calls for security, claiming a 'Code Pink', when the group refuses to leave immediately. His attempts to preserve the club’s authority are undermined by Howard’s confidence and the group’s successful disruption of the establishment.
