Igor stands amongst Dr. Bruce Banner's team in the desert bunker. A scientist by cover and an enemy agent by trade. He resents that Banner alone holds the secret of harnessing the gamma ray. When a teenager wanders onto the test range and Banner orders the countdown held to save the boy, Igor sees his opening. He allows the clock to keep running. "It'll be the end of Bruce Banner," he mutters, saying nothing as the test proceeds. The gamma bomb roars and Banner throws himself over the boy. Igor's choice creates a monster.
With Banner presumed dead, Igor slips into the cottage to dig the gamma formula out of its hiding place. The green-skinned giant he helped create finds him before he is able. Igor empties a pistol into the creature. The Hulk simply takes the gun and crushes it like foil. Cornered and captured, he is thrown in a cell. Undeterred, he uses a sub-miniature shortwave set and transmits the gamma secret across the steel curtain to the dreaded Gorgon. He then sits back and waits. His act of treachery having aimed two monsters directly at each other.
