Shang-Chi operates in the American West under the name the Ten Rings, a legend built on the simple rule that he fights with nothing but his hands and appears when a bell is rung ten times. He rides with Kate Bishop, and when John Walker rings that bell to lure him into a trap, he walks in anyway and dismantles Walker's entire posse before getting the information he actually came for: a lead on his missing sister Xu Xialing, who disappeared while hunting the Hood. The trail takes him and Kate to a hovering ghost train carrying hundreds of enslaved Chinese immigrants held in a hypnotic trance, and then to a confrontation with the Hood directly. The Hood turns out to be Xialing herself, who killed the original and took his demon-possessed cloak for her own cause, and she has been so thoroughly consumed by its corruption that Shang-Chi cannot reach her. When she moves to kill him and Kate puts her down, he is left carrying the loss quietly. He came to find his sister, and he found her too late.
