Jacques Dernier marches to war with explosives in his kit and French on his tongue, one of the fighting men who fall in behind Captain Carter. He is a soldier of the Howling Commandos, the ragged unit that turns Peggy's serum and Steve's iron suit into an actual army. When the shooting starts he is in the thick of it, working demolitions and cover while Hydra's positions come apart around him.
At Castle de Craque, the Commandos storm the Red Skull's Black Forest stronghold to burn his operation to the ground. The plan buckles the instant Schmidt summons his champion, a tentacled horror hauled in from beyond the stars. Dernier stands with the unit through the chaos, calling out in French as the team scrambles to get the downed Hydra Stomper back on its feet and Peggy makes her run at the portal.
