Milestone: Becomes a founding member of The Howling Commandos
Jacques Dernier is a French Resistance fighter captured by Hydra and held in Schmidt's Austrian weapons facility. He is among the prisoners freed when Steve Rogers storms the base to rescue the captured men, joining the breakout that tears the factory apart. Fluent only in French, he communicates most easily through Gabe Jones, the one Commando who shares his tongue.
He signs on to the elite unit Rogers forms to wage war on Hydra, becoming one of the Howling Commandos and serving as the team's explosives and demolitions expert. He fights at Captain America's side through the campaign against Hydra's bases across Europe, his talent for wrecking enemy machinery a steady asset to the unit.
