Tread Lightly
Tread Lightly

An unidentified man crosses paths with the reporter Robbie Robertson in the underworld of Depression Era New York, encountered when Robbie comes looking for Jimmy Addison's widow and finds this man in her place instead. Guarded and pointed in his questions, he presses Robbie on why he is there and why he is writing about Addison, and when Robbie reveals that Addison is dead and burned down Silvermane's mansion, the man's manner turns and he tells the reporter it is time to leave. Later, we find that this man knows both Flint and Addison.

Double Cross

Lonnie Lincoln is one of the powered men surfacing across Depression Era New York, recognized by the reporter Robbie Robertson in a wartime photograph alongside the dead arsonist Jimmy Addison and the missing Flint Marko. When Robbie comes looking for him at the Hooverville, the police descend on the shanty town under the mayor's orders to clear the camps.

As the officers begin beating the residents, Lonnie stands with Flint to defend them, his skin hardening to a rock-like shell as he turns on the police. Robbie captures the fight on his camera, the images that will run in the Daily Bugle. The thread tying him to the others comes clear the same day: Lonnie, Flint, and Addison were all prisoners of war held together in the same camp, the photograph taken the day they were freed.

A Mistake I'll Never Make Again

Lonnie Lincoln is tracked down in Harlem by the reporter Robbie Robertson and convinced to come back to Ben Reilly's office to talk about the powered men surfacing across the city. Guarded and slow to trust, he keeps his answers short until a pack of Janet's playing cards eases the tension and draws him out.

As the game loosens him, he begins to share. He speaks of what the Germans did to him and his fellow prisoners of war, the ordeal that ties him to the dead Jimmy Addison and the missing Flint Marko, and tells Ben and Robbie that the answers they are looking for lie with a man named Dr. Faber. When Janet asks about the H on the necklace he wears, he tells her it stands for Helen, his mother, and that the two of them are all the family he has.

Betrayal
Betrayal

Lonnie Lincoln throws in with Silvermane's growing coalition of powered men, arriving at The Alcove alongside Flint Marko to take a place among the crime lord's muscle. Like Flint, he knows that his time is running short. The reason Flint was able to convince him to throw his lot in with the man who promises him the best of his final days.

He puts his strength to use breaking another of his kind out of captivity. Joining Flint in his new position, Lonnie storms the police precinct to free Dirk Leyden. Deflecting bullets (at the cost of his new suit) and tossing the officers aside as though they were barely there, they reach their new electrified comrade ensuring Silvermane is able to recruit the aggressive Megawatt to his cause.

Lonnie Lincoln storms Dr. Faber's hidden laboratory alongside Silvermane's crew, throwing himself into the violence as the gang moves to seize the doctor's work. When the shooting starts, he puts his hardened body to use, leaping in front of the gunfire to shield the others as bullets meet his rocklike skin.

He plays peacemaker among his own as the raid turns chaotic. When Flint tries to stop Leyden from attacking Ogden, it is Lonnie who pulls his friend away from the confrontation, keeping the crew moving as the lab descends into gunfire and flame. He leaves with Silvermane's men as the building burns behind them, Faber and Ogden dead in the wreckage.

Milestone: Depowered

Lonnie Lincoln is set against the Spider when the masked man comes to cure him, and the two clash in a brawl the battered Spider is in no shape to win. Lonnie's purpose is simple, to beat the Spider into the ground, and his hardened skin proves so tough that it turns aside the antidote needle meant to save him. The fight ends only when Robbie drives the syringe into the one place his rocklike body cannot protect, his eye.

The cure changes everything for him. Freed of the power that was slowly killing him, Lonnie thanks the men who saved him rather than cursing them, helping carry the wounded Ben back to safety. He asks Robbie who the Spider really is and why the masked man would help him, and accepts the simple answer that the Spider is just a good guy. Rid of his burden at last, Lonnie leaves town with his mother, walking away from the war with a rare happy ending.
