Spider-Noir · Season 1 · Episode 2
Tread Lightly
Hello and welcome fellow Marvel fans to the Snark
Industries podcast. I'm John. And I'm Remy. And
we invite you to join us as we work our way through
every Marvel TV show, movie, and crossover. Meaning
if there's a Marvel character on screen, it's
fair game. All categorized in the temporal order
of their setting. By the time we're done, we'll
have built a complete start to finish timeline
of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. To accomplish
this goal and to have a bit of fun along the
way, each episode will be split into two parts.
The watch party and the deep dive. If you're
hearing this, you found one of our watch parties.
This is where we sit down with you and experience
a piece of Marvel media together in real time,
celebrating the high points and poking fun at
the low ones, because that's what heroes do.
To get synced up, here's what you'll need to
do. Pull up the movie or episode on your screen
and pause it right as the Marvel logo is prominently
displayed. Then come back here and wait for the
three -tone countdown. On the third tone, press
play, and just like that, we'll be watching together.
Quick note, if your version includes ads, you'll
need to pause us during those breaks to stay
in sync. Once you finish watching along, we encourage
everyone to check out the deep dive as well,
where we will do an in -depth analysis of the
information we just consumed. Most importantly,
we want to thank each and every one of you for
joining us on this incredible journey. We're
not affiliated with Marvel in any way, shape,
or form. We're just fans who are passionate about
these stories and these characters and wish to
share them with everyone in a new and exciting
way. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy this episode
of Stark Industries. Yeah. In case you forgot
from the last time we did this. Addison. Bulletproof
Addison is what they call him. No, wait. No,
that's not him. No, he ate those bullets pretty
good. Yeah. I had to say that again. Starting
things off upset as I was last time. Great. We'd
love to see that. Oh, we didn't see the dead
guy's toe yet. That's true. They were only going
to hit me with the old one, two punch. That's
what they needed to do. That was good timing.
The one, two punch handed right when he. That's
showbiz, baby. That's right. That's right. Look
at that shiner. And just like that, I'm back
in the business. Keep trying to get out. They
keep pulling me back in. Here's my Tommy gun.
Oh, hey. Plug. A plug. This is his origin story.
Maybe. I feel like something's going to happen
to this. Oh, there it is. That's a origin story.
Oh, man. Wow. She is so sad. She's something.
A sad man. Hasn't worked on the branding yet.
They missed an opportunity to say that just then
that it would have been awesome. Hollywood writers,
call me. Yeah. I hate saying it. It's coarse
and gritty. It gets everywhere. Oh, man, you
made that joke last episode. I'm going to do
it every time. Oh, good. Okay. I just wanted
to make sure I was prepared for it. Yeah. I think
she is. Yeah, her hat's sitting cocky side on
her head. You know that's a sign. It is. I bet
she's got lots of pins in there to hold that
thing in place. Same time. Oh, my. All the fun
ones do. Her hat's way too small for her head
and it's upsetting me. So many things upset you.
That's true. I'm an easily upsetable guy. Nope.
Fix that little handle. Yeah. I like the little
music. This is very Fallout. Ah, yeah. Man, what
was the point of fixing the cup if you're just
gonna... Listen, some people are perfectionists.
I don't know why he's nervous. He's not like,
that guy's insane. Wow. Wow. That's a lot of
backtalk from a guy that just kills folks randomly.
Peacocking. I like his little robe. Give me one
of those. His little rope? His robe. Oh, I thought
you said rope. Got it. Yes, me too. Quite the
robe. It's my first time speaking English. Yeah,
yeah. You're doing pretty good. Yeah. Well, I
imagine so. Yeah, yeah. You would too if you
were turning to sand. Yeah. The sand monster.
Yeah, sand monster. New branding. See his hat's
on straight. Yeah. I don't trust him. Yeah. Yeah.
No, here we go. Yeah. Yeah. This, uh, this song
feels like something that would have been in,
uh, uh, what is that? That league of legends?
Uh, arcane. Uh, yeah, I could see that very arcane
vibe to it. We're just plugging everybody. That
dude. That dude's half spider face makes me makes
me uncomfortable. I bet they're going to call
him a spider monster. Probably. Where is the
spider? Being grumpy upstairs somewhere. Yeah,
right. Yeah, they need to have him in here. Cameo,
if nothing else. I mean, it looks like we're
getting electro. This is a cool intro. Yeah,
yeah, I dig it. Yeah. Yavo. Mucho gusto. See
again. Yeah. Robbie is the reason you watch this
in color. Yeah. Yeah. All the black and white
crowd. You're really missing something cool here
with this man and his ties. Although I really
do look forward to watching this in black and
white. Yeah. Is that in a cupboard? It looked
like it. I'm not worried so much about the ketchup,
but I also thought there was milk in there. No,
it's the milk. Yeah, it's the milk I'd be concerned
about. I may just eat a ketchup sandwich. I'm
out. I'm done. Turn it off. Hey, you know, look,
look, when you don't have any money and you got
ketchup and you got bread. I can sell one of
those ties and afford something more than a ketchup
sandwich. That's probably true. Oh, we're going
to get Jameson now. That'd be pretty cool. That
would be pretty cool. Premonition. Spider sense.
Nailed it. Right. Bintingle. Yeah. Yeah. The
Bintingle. He's not had it yet. That was the
Remy Tingle. I still don't like it. I don't like
that anymore. That is a hell of a shiner. Yeah,
well, he got punched by a sand monster. That's
true, that's true. All those other drawers were
just casually empty. A clue. Oh, well. There
it is. Yeah. There's the Bintingle. That whole
platoon get blessed with powers. Is that does
that work together? I mean, blessed is a word
we're using. Yeah. I mean, fair enough. It doesn't
seem like Flint's having a great time with it.
No. But once he gets kind of things under control,
yeah, he's not there yet. Just hold tight. Buckle
up. Look how much shorter that guy is. Huh? That
is an insane height difference. His hat just
casually wet. Yeah. Was it raining outside? I
wasn't paying attention. Oh, no, there's a hat
ring right there. But not a hat. Yeah. Not sure
that that's better. The cool thing about sight
is if we could see him, he can see you. Eh, not
in the dark. Doesn't always work like that. Oh,
it's working like that. Mm -hmm. Oh, it is raining.
Look. Look at the corner. Yeah, yeah. Why is
just his hat wet then? Um, I got nothing. Yeah.
That hat has got such a big brim, we can't really
tell, but it's actually shielding his entire
body from the rest of the rain. Yeah. Yeah. Meanwhile,
she's got two small hat and a hot dog, apparently.
It's like I tried, but they keep pulling me back
in. Mr. Michael. Wow. Bribery. Nice to see it
in full force. No, no. She found it outside and
she was returning it just in case. So he's a
bad guy. Just because he's a bad guy doesn't
mean he's a bad guy. A million. Feels like an
exaggeration. Yeah. Ben's no good at counting.
A spider, not the counter. I'm wondering why
they changed the name from the black cat. That'd
have been a fun nod. Yeah, I don't know. I just
work here. No, he's doing that weird, like, borderline
orgasm from just listening to her do music. Oh,
no. The big tingle's really firing off right
now, I'll tell you. Oh, God, no. Oh, the bin
tingle means so many things. Yeah, it does. It's
a versatile tingle, I'll tell you. Ken, I can't
get over his voice. Murder. I know. Dramatic.
Everyone's winning. Mm -hmm. Except for the dead
ones. Oh, he wants what you give him. Oh, he
is. Yes. Butt touch. He wants it. Oh. I'm Dick
and Harry. That's a hilarious way to say something
just now. Nick Cage. Yeah. That was so Nick Cage
just now. It was, yeah. Because I'm broke. Yeah.
Good one. Also, the thing I said. I think I think
yours is better. Yeah. Yeah. Careful, you tend
to mud. Is that him? Oh, yeah. And look, he looked
different, but I guess it's because his face
is half covered with sand. Sure, sure. I was
like, that doesn't look like he's got a beard.
But no, it's just a sandy face. You could actually
see pieces of sand and mud rolling down a little
bit. Yeah, that's kind of cool. Kind of gross.
We're so cool saying the same things. Yeah, yeah,
yeah. Okay. Wow. Oh, man. That's amazing. That
was hilarious. Oh, so unexpected. Yeah. I mean,
are we to assume his reflexes just aren't super
reliable or is he's choosing to get beat up?
That's my assumption. He must be because he should
be able to handle these guys readily. Retired
or not, he still has spidey senses. Yeah, well,
they just worked. He dodged the first punch when
he walked in. You don't know nothing, huh? His
voice is very deep. Yeah, this is how you know
that I'm an enforcer. Just like Donk. Oh, tuck
and roll. All right, he's fine. Physics. Oh,
man. Where'd he go? Yes. Yes. Nailed it. Nailed
it. See, Ruby Tingle worked again. Oh, man. Wow.
Could you make him any more of a meathead? Oh,
my God. Screw the people in Talamazoo, huh? Yeah,
bump them. Hey, there's the hot dog. See, I knew
it. Oh, yeah, yeah. Nailed it. That's the name
of the episode. Yeah. Well, he also ate a bite
of food and this kept talking. Yeah. I can't
with this guy. What are we doing? He's peeling
his hot dog like a banana. I'm really trying
to figure it out, too. Who does this? Yeah. No,
no one on Earth has ever eaten a hot dog like
that before him just now. Never go hungry again.
In prohibition. This is great. I mean, you want
votes. There you go. Yeah. Do you guys want your
alcohol bag? Vote for me. You have him to thank.
That's true. How different my life would have
been if that guy right there. I'm upset that
there's so many mannequins around them. Yeah,
yeah. I feel like this buddy of his is a bit
dirty. Well, yeah. Wow. I wonder how he feels
about women's suffrage. I think he just told
us. Someone ask this man real quick. This man
and his suits. I dig it. And he's walking through.
I don't know what the name of this area is. Yeah.
Something weird, I'm sure. Just casually. Wow.
She just lives in a lean to in the boroughs.
That's rough. It's tough out in the streets.
Mm -hmm. She's got a can of beans right there.
Better than the ketchup sandwich. Yeah, she's
living better than he is. It's all them suits.
Yeah, spit all your money in your... Oh, wow.
That's a big man. That is a... You had ketchup
sandwich for lunch. We're not brothers. He's
like, I got beans coming. That's a rough way
to find out. Oh, his nails match his suit. Excuse
me? His nails match his suit. I don't think they're
painted. They really look like it. Or maybe his
suit is just nail colored. Yeah, maybe. He didn't
like the people being all rich. Well, that's
why I'm here. Kicking down doors ain't like you're
going to kill somebody. Not want to be my brother.
Just because I had a ketchup sandwich. Yeah,
it doesn't look like any other angle. It was
just that one angle. It looks like his nails
were painted, so I guess it was just a weird
coloration. Yeah, must have been the light. That's
bizarre. Oh! My memory's jogged. Yeah, that's
not... She should have saved that extra hot dog
for that guy. He's got a black eye. They have
to have busted up noses. Not this time. Why are
you still here? Right. You don't know what crossing
the river sticks means? Well, American education
system. Yeah, phrasing. Forever. Yeah, that's
fair. Totally. Yeah. Totally fair. I'm with her.
She's making the right move here. Mm hmm. Mm
hmm. Probably should have made it a while ago.
Yeah. Yeah. Sad spider. Oh, man. Knock with a
mop. He left his mop. Yeah, right? Look at that
toilet. Matches the bathtub. It does. Oh, well,
boy, where's the light coming from? Like, why
is there so much light coming out of that wall?
It's a very bright room on the other end of that
hole. It feels like he could have gotten up on
the roof and like flipped it out or something
with that much light. Oh, he's getting this.
Yeah, I figured it out what he's doing. He's
getting a suit. Oh, yeah, but. But yeah, where
the lights coming from? I don't know why he's
not going to hold those four people's wall. I
also don't know. Right. You couldn't just went
and got another one from somewhere. Ben, you
had to go in here and ruin these people's whole
lives. Look, she gave him. Yeah. Married an idiot.
I don't know why you open the window. You could
just gone through the wall. Just because you
orange doesn't mean you're stoplight. Well, between
yellow and red. Yeah, I see what you did there.
Well, that's why you're eating ketchup sandwiches.
You're giving all the dollars to that guy. Just
about to say like a dollar in this wasn't worth
it. That hurt my foot. Yeah. Yeah. Like I reinforce
those souls. Whoa. That's a figure. He's, he's
not got a, not a bad point. A little pointed,
but not a bad point. Is that a line? Yeah, that's
right. He's right. Her jacket's very furry. Yeah.
You're walking around New York City with a billion
dollars in a suitcase. You don't know her. Why
are you just sharing a cigarette? That's how
you get cooties. They didn't know about cooties
yet. Why are you talking like that? Try to do
some open mouth kissing too. Ah, see, I bet that
transition was cool in black and white. Oh. Baby
Jesus. Oh, no. Totally different version. Slightly
different. Yeah. It's a sand monster. We got
a little sandier. Yeah. That chair is putting
in a lot of heavy lifting there. Yes, it is.
Oh. I wonder if like certain body parts are still
sandy and others aren't, you know what I mean?
I don't want to know the answers to those questions.
Be part of the group, too. I think that was the
big dude in the front of the. Yeah, there was.
So there was one big dude there. Yeah, I think
that was him. So I'm wondering, have we heard
his name yet? I don't think so. I'm so worried
about that guy's fingernails in that one scene
that I didn't didn't catch all the details. Imagine
having to go to a pay phone to call people. Oh,
I've done it, dude. It sucks. I have to. Yeah.
Yeah. Seems so ancient now. Why aren't their
noses all busted up? They've got magic bad guy
powers. Wow. I mean, Ben's had that shiner for
like a week. Yeah. Well, he keeps getting punched.
That's true. It's repetitive. Yeah, he's got
a repetitive stress injury. Oh, there's the Tommy
gun. Yeah, let's go. Oh, man. Oh, you're not
going to use it. Shoot her. Glad his webs work
again. What was that all about? I think it was
a purposeful pulling back on. So like as a reflex,
he stopped himself on. That's how I took it.
He's like, oh, I don't want to show these guys.
I'm Spider -Man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, that's
a good way to block him. Clever, clever. I'm
ready to leave that dreading once we totally
got air forever. I won't be able to say that
anymore. Oh, man. That dude. Wow. Oh, man. Beat
by a radio. Hit it with a radio, yeah. No, no.
Nope. Oh, man. You better hope they didn't register
that. Then they'd know it's him. Right. What's
he doing? The Batman voice. I mean, where are
the drugs going? He's really not even changing
his voice. He just can't talk through that mask.
Oh, no, there's there's there's about one degree
deeper here. I'm sensitive. Yeah, for sure. Fair
enough. Fair enough. It's so recognizable, though.
Yeah, it is. Oh, man. Anyone who's ever talked
to Ben Reilly knows that that's him. There's
no way they don't. Right. You're the only person
on Earth that sounds like this. Oh, boy. Must
be so hot in those masks. Yeah. The good thing
about it is once he takes his hat and mask off,
he just looks like a normal guy. Yeah, no hat
hair or anything. It's pretty good. Well, I guess
it's pretty hat hairy. I mean, the rest of his
costume is just a jacket. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah,
because of you. Oh, man. Yeah, you go there trying
to get fresh for the first time in how many ever
years and you stop the man from getting arrested,
probably. Oh, man. That's good. I remember my
first time being a superhero. Oh, boy. He's like,
bite me. Yeah. Put me out of my misery. I need
to rejuice all the powers. Give me a little bump.
That's a fine question, Ben. Yeah. Oh, man. Wow.
but we'll explore that question and more in the
deep dive. Thank you for joining us in this episode
of the snark industries podcast to join the conversation
and further explore the Marvel cinematic universe
with us. Head on over to snark industries, pod
.com. The link will be in the show notes, but
with that, we will see you in the next adventure.
New York, 1933. Ben Reilly takes on Cat Hardy's case to find the missing Flint Marko, and the search turns up a wartime platoon photograph linking Marko to the late Jimmy Addison and an unidentified giant of a man. As Ben and his secretary Janet dig in, Robbie runs his own line of investigation into the slums, finding scorched handprints and a lead on Addison's widow. Silvermane's men close in, dragging Ben toward a face-to-face with the crime boss before he escapes with a barrel roll and a bridge-hang, and the pressure eventually pushes Janet to quit. Alone, haunted by the memory of Ruby, Ben decides to reclaim the spider suit he buried in the wall of his old apartment, posing as a maintenance man to retrieve it. He uses it to strong-arm Silvermane into leaving him and Janet alone, only to learn from Robbie that the police had a sting waiting at the docks, and that his intervention just cost them the arrest that would have put Silvermane away.

If you're hearing this, you found one of our
deep dives. This is where we slow things down
and take a more pragmatic, in -depth look at
a piece of Marvel media. We'll walk through the
full plot, explore connections to the wider MCU
and Marvel comics, highlight Easter eggs, unpack
lore, and of course, give you our own personal
thoughts and feelings. Although this episode
stands on its own, it is designed to complement
the watch party. So, if you haven't watched along

first and coming back here for the full breakdown.

in a new and exciting way. So, sit back, relax,
and enjoy this episode of Snark Industries. Hello,
ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Snark Industries.
We just got done watching Spider Noir Season
1, Episode 2. Tread lightly. John, what was that
about? All right. So we have a direct continuation
of episode one, which I like for shows. We haven't
had a lot of that thus far. But the story continues
as Kat Hardy is hired, Ben, to investigate Flint,
a .k .a. we know as Sandman's disappearance.
Sandmonster. The Sandmonster. Correct. Yeah,
that's a fun plug for the Watch Party crew. Yeah.
The Sandmonster, Flint Marco. who went missing
after the events of episode one. So not a lot
to go on, but ultimately, Ben, with the encouragement
of Janet, his secretary, takes the case and they
go and try to search Flint's apartment to try
to find out any sort of information on it. And
there's not much to go on there, minus one picture
that looks like a sort of platoon photo that
showed Flint as well as The enhanced person from
the first episode, Jimmy Addison, the pyrokinetic
that ultimately was killed by the other PI that
was investigating him back in episode one. So
they are serving as soldiers in this platoon
together. So somehow there is a tie in here and
it's certainly not lost on me. And we discussed
when we were watching it live that. Also could
be some tie -ins to these enhanced, these powered
people as well, somehow from this platoon that
we'll learn about later. I don't know, but we're
going to find out as we go along. So a little
bit to go on. Ben goes in a closet and hides
as some of Silvermane's goons comes in and tries
to do the same thing. So obviously they're also
kind of on the same track of following this story
as it unfolds with these different characters
that we're sort of like highlighting in the episodes.
And so things kind of continue on from there.
We have Robbie, who is kind of looking into things
as well, who sort of goes into the slums, figures
out kind of where Addison was staying there,
and is kind of searching around looking for somebody
who can give him some information, his wife or
something like that, which he learned about through
information that Janet got by bribing a police
officer with, I'm assuming, a hot dog. They never
showed what was in that bag. That's my headcanon,
is that was a sack full of dogs. So, he's there
looking. I mean, you see, like, burned, scorched
handprints in the different furniture inside,
which I thought was kind of neat. You know, showing
this sort of troubled guy that's also kind of
having this same struggle that we see with Marco,
actually, with not being able to control these
powers. You kind of see that as he's literally
burning his own place there, albeit in the slums.
There he is, encountered. While he's looking
around that room by a mammoth of a man who, at
least for now, remains nameless. But we did notice
we were looking that he was also in that wartime
picture. So perhaps he's got some part to come
in the future, but it's not really expanded upon,
at least as of yet, who at first is going to,
you know, beat Robbie into a bloody pulp. But
ultimately, with some some good charisma and
talking about ultimately that he's on his side
shows that he was friends. And did know Addison
there in that conversation and points him towards
where he thinks that the late Addison's wife
would be saying that anytime they come into money,
she goes to a hotel and splurges on everything.
Treat yourself. All right, I get it. So she is
there. Robbie goes there, does indeed find her
and sort of talks to her about kind of everything
that's happening. Ultimately, then we have. Ben,
who, through his investigation, kind of jumps
back over to him. He is attacked in his office
by a couple of Sobermane's goons. He looks like,
to me, almost uses his powers, but then pulls
back because he doesn't want them to see what
he's got going on or whatever else and things
like that. Oh, man. Yeah, it was really kind
of a funny scene. He was very, very Nick Cage.
Yeah, gets beat up, gets put in the car and being
taken to Silvermane directly to, you know, answer
for his involvement in all of this. He punches
one of the goons in the nose and does a tight
barrel roll outside of the car and then hangs
from the bottom of the bridge to hide. Ultimately,
in retaliation for this, they send those goons,
I guess, back to his office or maybe it was his
home the first time. That they got him is not
super, super clear. It's just a very brief scene
in kind of a hallway. But at the very least,
they're at his office a second time because they've
got a gun pointed at Janet's head. She decides
that, you know what? I can't do this anymore.
He doesn't really even intervene. He hides. in
a, in a alcove until they're kind of gone or
whatever. And big tough spider. Yeah. Right.
Yeah. Just a very, you know, very, very clearly
showing how he stepped away from all of the superhero
business. And now he's just a top notch PI or
whatever. So anyway, she quits, she's done. So,
you know, he says, go home, sleep it off. You'll
feel better. She says, no, I'm leaving, not coming
back. And then we have our, our good sad spider
scene is he's all alone now. Janet's gone. He
thinks about his lady, Ruby, no longer with us
and ultimately decides, though we don't know
it, to redawn the mask. but he's got to go get
it. We saw in episode one, he buried in the wall.
I assumed it was the wall where he lived now.
Apparently he has since moved. Yeah. He has since
moved and goes and poses a maintenance man and
enters the apartment of the people that live
there now, which he used to live when he buried
the suit in the wall and knocked the bathroom
wall out to take the suit and jump out the window.
So that's a pretty, pretty neat, pretty neat
move that he did. And he goes down and ultimately
Silvermane in a little convoy is rolling out
to somewhere, question mark. And the warehouse
is that. Yeah, no, no, no. I know. Yes, I said
I was going to get there. But yes, you're correct.
Sorry. I mean, Winston and him talked about it
earlier. Sorry. Correct. Yeah. Yeah. No, it's.
Yeah. No. So he jumps in, beats all the goons
up and sits there with Silvermane. And, you know,
they have this first sort of. And basically just
sells them to leave him alone. You know, like
nothing more than that. This major crime boss
is, hey, I beat up all your goons and now we're
talking. Leave me and Janet alone. OK, goodbye.
And that's that. And so then he gets back and
gets a phone call from from Robbie, who are at
the docks where Silvermane and the goons were
headed. And as it turns out, on this very trip,
the police had set up an ambush. to arrest Silvermane
for all the crimes that he had done. And ultimately,
by redawning the suit and going and doing this
little shenanigan that he did, he prevented Silvermane
from being arrested and put behind bars for all
the crimes. Beautiful. That's kind of where we
put a pin in it for this episode in terms of...
I mean, I don't even know if a cliffhanger is
the right move. He's just sitting there like,
oh, man, what have I done? You know, throws his
hands up in the air. Done messed up? Yeah. Yeah.
So messed up now, A .A. Ryan. So anyway. Boy.
You know, I assume that we'll continue this on
in the next episode. But that's where episode
two does, in fact, end. MCU tie -ins, as I said,
it's going to be, I mean, throughout the entirety
of the Spider -Man Wars. thing here it's going
to be kind of the same story because this is
obviously one continuous story not a a myriad
of of little snips of spider noir's life but
instead uh you know one continuous story that
they're doing so uh and the answer is once again
not a ton you know outside of just the character
names that we know sand monster As they say in
the show, a .k .a. Sandman. Of course, we've
got Ben Reilly, the spider, you know, Spider
-Man in general. We got Black Cat still here,
though. She's still kind of not come to her full
potential, in my opinion yet. But, you know,
these are these are just kind of main characters
that are in the MCU in general, in the comic
books in general. So they kind of all tie in
together. But as I said, you know, all of these
shows are or these episodes for this show are
going to be kind of. a non -starter in terms
of the mcu at large because it's a entirely different
area so speaking of entirely different areas
why don't you tell us about how you know anything
from this episode in terms of comic tie -ins
and such yeah yeah so uh as as you mentioned
it's gonna be kind of not not redundant but kind
of the same with the characters and tie -ins
because we're getting a lot of uh A lot of people
sprinkled in as we go. And of course, you know,
Cat Hardy is we know Felicia Hardy that runs
the Black Cat in the Spider Noir comics. There's,
of course, Flint Marco. We're familiar with him
and he's we talked about him being the Sandman
last episode. And yeah, so as far as comic roots
are concerned, it's really just a matter of the
core characters and who we're dealing with. Even
Silvermane is a character in the comics. Slightly
altered for this, but yeah, it's really not not
super close to the comic book series as a whole.
And as a slight side note to the comic of Spider
Noir comics, there are three out there that I'm
aware of. One was in 2009, one was in 2010, and
then one is either currently airing or just not
airing, currently being released or just finished
being released. And that one was absolutely phenomenal.
So if you guys want to read a Spider Noir, if
you're really digging this, you want to read
a Spider Noir book, that one is excellent. I
highly, highly recommend it. It's a lot of fun.
But yeah, as far as comic tie -ins and Easter
eggs, that's pretty much as far as we get. It's
not a whole lot to go off of on this one. So
overall, what'd you think? Yeah, that's a glowing
recommendation already in terms of comic book.
I don't have to do that myself. Highly recommend
it. So what did I think? I like it. I continue
to like this show. I liked the first episode
and I still have some questions, but they're
slowly filling in some answers little by little
as we go. Definitely taking some liberties with
some of the characters, which I don't hate because
it is sort of its own universe designation, which
I know you covered before or not even doesn't
even have a real designation. Yeah. Of its own.
Hasn't been named yet. Yeah, but definitely not
part of anything that we have in terms of continuity.
So taking some liberties isn't overly problematic
to me in that case, in terms of how they're changing
and portraying some of the characters and some
of the abilities and everything. I said, I don't
really have any sort of major complaints in terms
of that. The story is interesting. You know,
we're already starting to see this sort of redemption
arc of him, you know, coming back and who knows
what's going to be. I mean, this this, you know,
the events of this episode might be enough to
put it back under for a little while. I don't
know. So maybe we'll have some he and then Han
as we go forward with how he feels about using
the spider suit and his powers in general. You
know, and overall, like two episodes in and a
lot of big picture. a lot of movies and stuff
like that. And what we know kind of as the Sony
verse, right. I'd say this is definitely at least
thus far, one of the better projects that they've
done. Yeah. I don't, nothing, nothing is, nothing
has turned me off in the ways that some of these
others have, which, which we will get to eventually.
I know, but I cannot wait. Yeah. Yeah. I might
literally die on on screen here. It's morbid
time. Oh, man. Yeah. So anyway. Yeah. No, I liked
it. I said, I'm curious to see what happens next.
The show has got me hooked in terms of, you know,
wanting to be here. You know, I'm not doing this
because I just want to entertain all you fine
folks. I'm doing this because I want to see what
happens next. And if that's not the mark of a
good show, I don't, I don't know what it is.
So, right. That's how I feel. How about your,
how about yourself? I'm having a ton of fun.
I, I love how corny it is. I love how over the
top and absurd his accent, his voice. I don't
know what his character, I don't know what, what
to call it. I don't think it's an accent, but
it is just, it's obscene. It is an absolute blast.
I think everyone is doing. a great job with acting
you know nick cage accepted for who he is but
yeah i i love brendan gleason he is scary in
this role he's like he's he's intimidating he's
got that that gravitas that totally checks out
as a bomb boss and i'm having fun with that so
yeah all in all i just it's a good ride i'm loving
the altered look at the uh like flint marco and
uh Felicia, just everyone having just this slightly
tilted lens, even from seeing this same lens
being put on them in the comics, it's fun to
see kind of the cinematic look at that lens as
well. So, um, you know, Robbie's character is
a, is a big part of the comics as well. And he's
a lot of fun in, well, not fun, but he's a really
integral part of that story as well. And to see
him getting as involved as he is, that's pretty
exciting. Cause so we're starting to see things
from the comic in again, a slightly different
lens. And, and I'm just, really having a good
time with it so All in all, I cannot wait to
see what happens in this ridiculous show. Yeah,
I think the way you said it, it's so corny. And
I think it's leaning into that. It's accepting
that as its identity. Oh, it knows exactly what
it is. And it's doing it very well. And it is
funny because we definitely talked in the watch
party as well. And I think it's worth mentioning
to get to hear about his voice. Yeah, whatever
accent or whatever he's doing. But then when
he puts the suit on, I definitely felt that voice
drop an octave. And I can't help but go back
to the Christian Bale Batman. It's not quite
as it's not quite as like over the top as that
one is. But it really is just it's just so funny.
And it really sounds it sounds like his his mask
is so pressed up against his face and his nose.
Maybe that's what it is. Talk like that anyway.
Maybe that's what they're going for. It's definitely
different enough, but you could still very, very
clearly tell it's him and his same like whatever
accent or thing he's trying to do with this voice.
It's just, it's just Nick Cage being the best
version of Nick Cage that he could be and, and
bless him for it. You know, that's, that's all
I know to say. That's all I know to say. You
know, he's, he's, he's doing better here for
me that I'll, you know, that we'll get to there
where my, my favorite hero of all time, where
he just, I don't even think that was him more
so than what's the script he was given, but I'm
sure he didn't help it. When we get to Ghost
Rider, but you know, he's, He is an interesting
character. He is always an interesting character.
Absolutely. I've been enjoying it so far. The
corniness, as you said, is well put. Definitely
worth the watch. Yeah. All that said, I'm having
a blast and I cannot wait to join you folks with
the rest of it. It's going to be fun to continue
on this one. We'll see you on the next one. Thank

Snark Industries continues with Spider-Noir's second entry, a direct continuation that both hosts appreciate for its serialized storytelling. The full plot gets walked through, from Cat Hardy hiring Ben to track the vanished Flint Marko, to the discovery of a wartime platoon photo connecting Marko, the late Jimmy Addison, and a mysterious mammoth of a man, to Ben's reluctant, powers-suppressing scrapes with Silvermane's goons. The episode builds toward Ben finally reclaiming the spider suit from his old apartment, only to unwittingly foil a police sting and keep Silvermane out of a jail cell. Comic connections stay light and character-driven, running through Cat Hardy as this world's Black Cat, Flint Marko as Sandman, and a reworked Silvermane, with one host offering a strong recommendation for the recent Spider-Noir comic run. Personal thoughts stay enthusiastic on both sides, with shared delight in the show's committed corniness, Nicolas Cage's wonderfully strange voice work, and Brendan Gleeson's genuinely menacing crime boss.

Synopsis
Cat Hardy hires Ben Reilly to find her missing bodyguard, Flint Marko, the man whose body has begun turning to sand. She offers little beyond his address and the detail that his condition surfaced roughly six months ago and has steadily worsened, and both Ben and his secretary Janet seem to sense she is concealing more than she admits. Searching Flint's apartment, Ben finds an old wartime photograph showing Flint and the late pyrokinetic Jimmy Addison serving as soldiers side by side, evidence that the two powered men share a buried history. Narrowly avoiding Silvermane's bodyguard, Winston, he is able to slip away. It would appear that Winston is on the same trail. Across the city, Janet bribes a records clerk named Hank for a file on Marko, while the journalist Robbie Robertson, chasing the story of Addison's death, follows the trail to a rundown house and finds a towering man, who takes the news of Jimmy’s death poorly, rather than the widow he came to question.
When Silvermane's men ransack Ben's office, put their hands on, and a gun to the face of Janet, she decides she has had enough and walks out, apparently never to be seen again. Ben is pulled back toward the life he had buried five years past. Posing as maintenance to the tenants now residing in his old home, he recovers the Spider's mask from inside the wall where he had sealed it away. He pulls the costume back on and makes a clumsy entrance to confront Silvermane on his way to the docks, warning the old crime boss to leave Ben Reilly and Janet in peace. The threat seems to land. Only later does Ben learn its true cost: the police had been tipped of and a trap had been laid for Silvermane at those very docks. By frightening him into staying home, the Spider has unknowingly saved the man he despises from the arrest that was waiting for him.

Comic Roots
Where the episode's people and places come from on the page.
The mainstream Felicia Hardy debuted in Amazing Spider-Man #194 (1979), created by Marv Wolfman and Dave Cockrum, as a cat burglar with a complicated bond to Spider-Man. Reframed here as a nightclub singer who hires and manipulates a private investigator, she trades the catsuit and acrobatics for leverage, secrets, and stage lights, while keeping the moral ambiguity intact.
Continues to be reworked away from his comics roots. The original Sandman of Amazing Spider-Man #4 (1963), by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, was a small-time crook empowered by a radiation accident. The wartime photograph linking Flint to Addison reframes his powers as something rooted in shared military service and a creeping bodily affliction, deepening the tragic, terminal angle the series has assigned to its villains.
