Agent Carter · Season 1 · Episode 6
A Sin to Err
Synopsis
Peggy Carter has a theory. The girl who cleaned out Howard Stark's vault was raised in Russia, one of a room full of young operatives who grew up chained to their beds. Peggy carries the idea to Chief Dooley, and the case against Stark finally begins to turn. Edwin Jarvis draws up the list Stark never wanted written: every woman he has entertained in six months. Peggy is not hunting for a face. She is hunting for scars on the wrist, the mark of a bed a child could not leave. The trail runs through a jeweler and a short column of Stark's conquests. It ends at a neighbor. Dottie Underwood, sweet as pie across the breakfast table at the Griffith, is the assassin Peggy has been chasing all along.
Down in a cell, Sheldon McFee hands Daniel Sousa the last piece: the blonde who once cuffed him to a chair. The SSR turns on one of its own. Meanwhile Dr. Ivchenko, the rescued psychiatrist the whole agency trusts, sits beside Agent Yauch and talks him gently toward a top-shelf bourbon and then toward his own death. Peggy runs. She doubles back to the Griffith for the one thing she will not leave behind, a vial of Steve Rogers' blood. Dottie is waiting with a kiss, and Peggy's own knockout lipstick drops her cold. Jack Thompson snaps on the cuffs. The best agent in the building is under arrest for treason, and the real spy strolls out the front door.

Comic Roots
Where the episode's people and places come from on the page.
Ivchenko's whole method, the calm voice, the ring, the patient talk that walks a man off a ledge, is lifted from Doctor Faustus, the Marvel villain built entirely around psychiatric manipulation and hypnosis, first appearance Captain America #107 (November 1968, Lee and Kirby). The show has not yet put his real name on screen but the lineage is unmistakable the moment he starts working on Dooley

Angie's Monologue
Angie's audition piece is Nora Helmer's exit speech from Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House ("You and Papa have committed a great sin against me... I have existed merely to perform tricks for you, Torvald"). The title leans on that same word, and Angie's whole subplot, a woman ordered to shrink into secretary school, rhymes with Nora walking out on Torvald. A tidy literary spine for a spy-caper.
The Empire State Building
Dooley sells the Empire State Building to Ivchenko as "103 stories." The tourist number is 102 floors; the 103rd is a cramped private level most New Yorkers never set foot on.
